Carson Montessori specializes in student led learning. Here are two examples from Carson Montessori:
Second grader Alex J. shared his life cycle report on the Salmon with Principal Daniels. She guided his learning into a discovery that salmon are in Nevada. Alex learned where the salmon are. He took is learning to the next level when he made a phone call to the Forest Service and he is scheduling and making all of the arrangements, including booking the transportation for the field trip for the whole school to go in October to see the salmon.
Research, Practical Life and Real World Connections are all key components in Montessori’s upper elementary. Under the mentorship of Principal Daniels, students during the 2008-2009 school year will have the opportunity to work on legislative bills that directly impact their future education. The students will work the upcoming session at the Nevada Legislature. Curricular specifics include learning the ins and outs of the legislative process, researching bill draft particulars, tracking specific pieces of legislation and testifying at the Nevada Legislature.
